Hey there! This is Soph, typing for the first time here on WordPress.
I’ve gotta say, the site isn’t exactly intuitive, but it does seem to have some cool features available. So I’m going to spend some time getting acquainted with those later. Mainly this first post is here to give all you wonderful people out there an idea about why the heck I set this site up.
This site is here to celebrate everything pansexual! The wonders of gender, beauty, identity and most of all humanity. It’s here to celebrate people.
I got fed up with the total lack of information out there for pansexuals. And I do mean pansexuals, not bisexuals. There is a difference. It’s subtle, but it is there. Here’s what I mean:
A pansexual is someone who is attracted to people of all genders and does not believe in the binary definition of male and female. They believe that males and females exist, but they also feel that they are not the only two options out there. There are people who happily live within the spectrum of trans, people who are androgynous, butch, femme, queer… the list goes on. And so personally, the term bisexual is rather limiting. It feels as though it is playing into the idea that there are only ever two genders out there. It seems like it’s almost tacitly implying that anyone who does not consider themselves to be 100% male or 100% female, somehow, doesn’t exist.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the label of bisexual is bad, and that anyone who identifies as such should be rounded up and suitably ‘re-educated’, far from it. Merely that, for me, it is a label that is somewhat limiting, and that it fits in with a philosophy that I, personally, do not agree with. *cough cough* Lecture over.
…
And so Visual Gender came about! (I chose that phrase for my title rather than something about pansexuality, because, well, pansexual is a beautiful, but very clunky word. It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.)
I intend this to be an art blog, with occasional snippets of my own musings and thoughts.
Feel free to comment and discuss any issues or ideas I raise, or merely say “hi” as you are passing by. Everyone is welcome!
